In an effort to eliminate another chemical in my life, I went off the birth control pill. I mentioned this a few weeks ago and started sleeping more and also cleaned up my diet. I thought it would be something simple, but the impact it had on my entire body was HUGE. Long story short, I saw a homeopathic doctor last week who is helping me get back on track with my body’s natural balance. I’m excited and really wish I would have sought help a few months ago.
My body is in shock and slowly adjusting to being normal again. Healthy living shouldn’t be complicated, but it kind of really is sometimes, especially with all the other junk that surrounds us in this atmosphere that we can’t control. Fully and suddenly immersing yourself into a healthy lifestyle can be disastrous and often cause you to give up before you even really get started. It is important to eliminate unnatural substances from entering your body, but it’s okay to take it slow and figure out what works best for you instead of doing it all at once and being completely miserable. Here are few tips that have worked for me as I make these strides myself:
Start With Prevention – Keep Yourself Healthy
That means sleeping, healthy eating, exercising, resting, drinking plenty of water, taking your vitamins, etc. Don’t wait to catch an illness to treat it. Prevent one from happening, because otherwise you will have to take prescribed medications to get better. Take it seriously.
Read ALL Labels. – Not Just Food
You would be surprised how much crap is packed into your beauty products, over the counter medications, and even vitamins. Medicines often have sucralose in them to make it feel better, gum has aspartame, beauty products have sulfates and parabens
Start Small – Go Slow
Slowly begin to evaluate all the different products you use. From your body wash, shampoo, vitamins… anything that you put in or on your body. Focus on adding in healthy alternatives instead of throwing everything out and buying everything new. This will save you money too. Don’t get overwhelmed. Take small steps and be proud of the ones you’re making.
Let Your Body Heal Itself
Your body was built to heal itself with a huge checks and balances system in place. For instance, if you have a headache, you probably need to relax. Learn to honor your body’s signals and it will eliminate the constant need for over-the-counter, self-prescribed medications.
Talk To A Professional
The World Wide Web is a beautiful thing… sometimes. Other times it’s filled with crap nuggets that just confuse the hell out of you. All the information contradicts itself and by the end of the day it is hard to tell what is legit and what is not. If you have a specific concern you are trying to address by eliminating chemicals, just go and talk to someone and save yourself some time. You also don’t want to make any decisions about going off any medications your family doctor prescribed without talking to them first.
What’s something you have successfully eliminated from your life? What is something you would like to eliminate?
