I’m always excited to receive my package from my foodie pen pal! This month it was from Caitlyn, who lives in DC. Normally, I don’t give a lot of information about what types of food I enjoy. I enjoy everything and I love trying new foods. However, since avoiding refined sugar, sugar substitutes and going gluten-free, I gave Caitlyn a little more to work around this month. I told her what foods I avoided, but that none of these restrictions would kill me if there was something she thought I needed to try. She definitely didn’t disappoint me! I told her I love trying new things and she really went out of her way to introduce me to new products and recipes.

Before I tell you about all the delicious food, let me point out that anyone can sign up for Foodie Pen Pal fun! Just visit Lindsay’s blog for more information. It’s so much fun to see what types of goodies you get.

Caitlyn wrote a little description on every item and attached it with a red bow… I realized I needed to up the presentation value of my foodie pen pal package next month. Fortunately, the recipient of my package, Lauren, wrote me an email telling me she loved it. I’m really grateful she sent that email because Caitlyn’s beautifully put together package made me feel like a slacker.

Caitlyn included Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Oats, which I love! So I was super excited that I wouldn’t need to buy them at the grocery store any time soon. This was the only item I was familiar with. There were a lot of unique snacks such as peeled roasted chestnuts. I’ve never had these before. Caitlyn got hooked on this while studying abroad in Paris (yes, I’m jealous too). She included a recipe for Paleo bread which was really good. I shoved the whole thing in my face and never looked back.

I just loved this Chili Chia snack mix she sent me, I inhaled all 3 ginger chews and the Toffee & Almond Milk Chocolate bar didn’t even make it to the picture. The chocolate bar was my favorite, therefore I made it the header image.

Other more unique items were smoked garlic and a Afgan spice mix. I haven’t used the spice mix yet, but I used the smoked garlic in hummus this past weekend and it is delicious. I’m considering purchasing a smoker for the sole purpose of smoking my own garlic. I haven’t tried the spice mix yet, I’m saving it for something fun,  but it smells amazing.

Thank you Caitlyn for this great package and introducing me to new and delicious foods I’ve never had before!
